\"\"The Sustainable Development Goals are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and improve the lives and prospects of everyone, everywhere. The 17 Goals were adopted by all UN Member States in 2015, as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development which set out a 15-year plan to achieve the Goals.<\/p>\n

The 17 universal targets include 169 targets, and progress towards the targets is measured by a set of 232 indicators. \u201c This Agenda is a plan of action for people, planet and prosperity. It also seeks<\/p>\n

to strengthen universal peace in larger freedom. We recognize that eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions, including extreme poverty, is the greatest global challenge and an indispensable requirement for sustainable development. All countries and all stakeholders, acting in collaborative partnership, will implement this plan. We are resolved to free the human race from the tyranny of poverty and want and to heal and secure our planet. We are determined to take the bold and transformative steps which are urgently needed to shift the world on to a sustainable and resilient path. As we embark on this collective journey, we pledge that no one will be left behind<\/strong>. \u201d (From UN Resolution A \/ RES \/ 70\/1).<\/p>\n

Of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, Objectives 2, 6, 11, 12, 14 and 15 directly contribute to the conservation of biodiversity.<\/p>\n

\"\"Goal 14.\u00a0 Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.<\/p>\n

\"\"Goal 15. Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.<\/p>\n

Goal 11. Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. 11.4 Strengthen efforts to protect and safeguard the world\u2019s cultural and natural heritage.<\/p>\n

Goal 12. Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns. 12.2 By 2030, achieve the sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources.<\/p>\n

\"\"\u00a0 \u00a0 Goal 6. Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. 6.6 By 2020,\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0protect and restore water-related ecosystems, including mountains, forests, wetlands, rivers, aquifers and lakes.<\/p>\n
